BANG opens the door! Boom comes the hero / superhero!! In a zap saves the girl from the ravager. This is what happens in a movie when a girl is assaulted. But in reality, sadly, the probability of such scene is ZERO!! Annoyingly, we hear lot of such news off-late. It has become a habit for our poor eyes and senses to come across the word "RAPE/RAPED" in newspaper to such an extent that we almost ignore reading the respective news in detail!!
"Arey,one more such incident! God save India",
"What nonsense is this? When will this stop?",
"Another crap news.These media people don't have any other job , but to write about this!" These are the common reactions captured. Such cases come as a breaking news . Media stirs more by debating about it. The public watches it and forgets the next day getting carried away by their own work. The life of the victim, their family and the punishment given to the culprit remains a question mark!
Its true that sexual assault and rape cases are not new to mankind. But the issue is, it is an epidemic right now. Don't you think so? "Oh come on! There is so much more to come in the coming years! So dont keep thinking about all this!!" Is that what you are murmuring? Then , why are we not taking any actions to stop it?? is my question!!
It is still difficult to digest the news of a 6-year being raped . Yet, there is no sign of punishment for the culprit! Each time I see the school bus of that school [read VIBGYOR HIGH], my imaginative superhero character shoots out many questions (including why??) and that is one reason for me to come up with this article.
Now that you understood what this blog is all about, let me start penning down my views on this. This is not to blame anybody but just to show my concern as an Indian and pass on my views to few as a responsible mother.
RAPE IS JUST NOT FOR ***! IT IS BEYOND THAT
Women might have come out of the shell and shown progress in all the fields, yet the society is filled with male who are chauvinist. Hmmm, so understand the reason for the increase in rape cases?? You guessed it right. Apart from S*X factor, the 10 minutes pleasure, it is the superiority that they want to stress through such cases. "WE ARE MEN, YOU LADY!!!!"

ALCOHOL PLAYS A MAJOR ROLE
An article in Women's Era latest edition says, drug addiction and alcohol consumption also plays a vital role in increase of rape cases in India. Few lines from the article--
"In recent times, we have seen an alarming rise in crime against women and children caused by the tendency of consuming drugs and alcohol in large sections of society. Leave addiction aside,we have witnessed most heinous and ghastly crimes in immediate history being committed after consumption of alcohol. "
This culture of addiction also affects the society which is a major concern.
WHAT ABOUT PUNISHMENT??
We have been taught right from our school days, anything against the rule will earn us punishment. Right from incomplete home works , unpolished shoes till uncut nails. The punishment's severity increases with increase in indiscipline. But, the formula of punishment works only in schools and in some colleges. I don't think "indiscipline=punishment" formula works for a society. Laws are written, courts do function ,but how effective is the system? The fear of punishment is missing. Give punishment to the culprit, only then fear will arise, else one day all will turn into criminals. Here, only victims are questioned and highlighted in the media , the culprit's details are kept safe. '5 years of imprisonment OR penalty OR both' for ruining a human's life is just an eyewash! What should be the punishment then ?? That is a mystery !!
When a person finds something wrong with his system, he checks with a doctor and gets it diagnosed. Further, starts taking treatment for that with a hope he will recover soon. He may not completely come out of the health problem, but continuous treatment will surely give a positive result. In the same way, we know there is something wrong with the society, we can guess the reasons too, the only step remaining is to give treatment. Yes, stop thinking, start acting! It is time to spread the fear of punishment , time for firmer laws , vigorous punishment . Is the Govt. listening ? It is our duty to keep stressing this point to the Govt.
Our Independence day (August 15th) is just gone, but let the patriotism and the affection for fellow citizens be alive forever. Hoping for a better future, meet you all with a better blog. Bye for now.
